falling asleep
falling asleep is like,
drifting through, an open turn-
no brakes or acceleration,
we fall, right on through-
relaxation, that final breath
and then nothing. a sea
of black and images
brought on by, memories
glued in our minds,
like a spider stuck fast
to a strip, of fly paper
spindly legs reaching,
reaching for leverage
but never finding it-
like drifting through
an open turn,
blanketed in ice and snow
we never seem to slow.
our foot, never leaves the gas pedal
as we float right off that cliff-
and we are asleep
